To test optical sight on … bowls
The dynamics of the daily round and the overdose of stress which we are forced to endure, make us to look for new, picturesque and nontraditional places for rehabilitation and relaxing. And since time is never enough it is good if we find that nook in which not only various tourist attractions are offered but it is comparatively nearby too. One of these places almost at the centre of Bulgaria in close proximity to town Pleven is the Complex for Hunting&Shooting “Vitska Eliya”
The modern shooting ground belongs to the Hunting&Fishing Society – Pleven and offers all conditions for lovers of the sports shooting and hunting. As natural background and location it pretends to be amongst the best ones at Balkan Peninsula and it is not by chance that it is a host of tournaments in shooting for the “Bulgaria Cup”. Here the terrain has big dimensions which allow the shooter to have “a calm eye” and to outline the target. The name itself “eliya” is archaic and it means literally “meadow near a river”. And since near this place the water of the river Vit is rippling, the picturesque place and the shooting complex got the name Vitska Eliya. Many years ago the local lovers of this sport tested their precise optical sight at a shooting ground located in the present park Kaylaka. Its ground was donated to the Shooting Society of that time in Pleven by the Bulgarian king in person. During the building of the park a change of the terrain had to be proceeded and thus the shooters got the new place for training, competitions, entertainment and chatting.
At present the Complex includes four shooting grounds. Three of them are for “skeet”, and one is for “trap”.
“Skeet” and “trap” are two Olympic disciplines of shooting. At the first one the standard asphalt bowl is shot out of special towers as the purpose of the one who points the gun is to shoot it on the move. Otherwise the target falls on the ground and only pieces out of it remain. At the “trap” the bowl flies out of equipment installed under the ground. “The shooting ground offers an opportunity for shooting at a running rabbit”, says Ivan Yordanov, Chairman of the Shooting Club in Pleven and ex competitor in this sport.
At the disposal of the tourists there are professional instructors who will involve them in the subtleties of the shooting and they will take care for the safety of the entertainment. The price for the standard offer for a gun and 25 bullets is BGN 21. The experience is worthy undoubtedly. The thrill regarding the hitting of the flying targets and drawing a bead on the next ones can’t be compared to anything. Along with the entertainment and the relaxing you can harden your psychic stability and concentration which are so necessary for you during the daily round. However if you prefer only to observe, you can do it before a cup of aromatic coffee or tea outside a restaurant.
The further development of the complex and the building of a hotel and bungalows for accommodation are imminent. Around the shooting ground there is also a water ring where different kinds of fish are bred as the purpose is to provide conditions for sports fishing.
The visit of the Complex for Hunting&Shooting can be combined with a walk to the numerous historical sights of town Pleven.
